BUHLER RECREATION PARK NEWS - 2022
Welcome to the 2022 season of the Buhler Recreation Park! This also marks the 15th season since the park opened in 2008. As we approach the season, we are hopeful that we are going into a normal season! As always, the board and management of the Buhler Recreation Park strive to make your visit a safe and enjoyable experience.
As most have noticed we have been running on a small staff the last couple of years due to Covid-19 and a lack of applications. We are still struggling to find a full complement of new staff but we are doing the best that we can. Patience at the beginning will be needed as it will take us time to train our new staff and to perform our regular maintenance.
Over the last two years with Covid, the park has suffered a significant financial shortfall with all of the restrictions and late start to the season and cancelations of various tournaments and events. With that said we managed to weather through but are hoping for normal years to come and as always, we appreciate and depend on your support. The Buhler Recreation Park is a non-profit charitable organization that receives no government support or financial aid and must survive on its own through field rentals, gate fees, donations and canteen sales to operate.
As gas, food, fertilizer and other costs continue to climb we are facing a large increase in expenses when it comes to maintaining the baseball diamonds, soccer fields, greenspace as well at the canteen. With this being said the board of directors have being faced with the difficult decision of raising the gate fee to $4.00 to meet the rising operational costs of the park. We haven’t seen a change in the gate price since 2014 and without this increase the parks viability would be at a critical state and its long term outlook in question.
In 2023 we will be host site to a new event we haven’t seen in the past. The 2023 World Police and Fire Games will be coming to Winnipeg and Buhler Recreation Park! We will be hosting the soccer and softball portion of the games which run from July 28 – August 6, 2023. This event is the second biggest sporting event in the world only behind the summer Olympics when it comes to athlete participation. Over 70 different countries from around the world will be participating in the games and it will be a showcase event for the entire province of Manitoba.
The park continues to evolve every year as observed by the trees that are beginning to populate the grounds. Each year we do try to make cosmetic appearance improvements that sometimes are not noticeable at first but in a year or two they mature and enhance the overall appearance of the park. The volunteer board who oversees the park is proud of the work they do. If you do have any suggestions on improvements, you’d like to see at the park don’t hesitate to see Steve or contact him at firstname.lastname@example.org and he will be happy to discuss them with you.
Let’s hope that we all have a safe, memorable and full 2022 season.
Thank you, Casera Credit Union, for selecting the EWSA as the recipient of the 2022 Casera Community Enrichment Award (more).
